The Lex Machina Team is excited to announce the launch of our Consumer Protection Litigation module. This practice area encompasses nearly 145,000 cases, including more than 26,000 class action lawsuits, pending in federal district court since 2009. Consumer Protection cases include claims under one or more of the following federal consumer protection statutes: the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Truth in Lending Act, Telephone Consumer Protection Act, or a federal consumer protection enforcement statute, such as the FTC Act or Consumer Financial Protection Act.

The new module covers two major areas: consumer finance, which includes litigation focused on debt collection practices, credit reporting, and truth in lending practices; and unfair or deceptive trade practices, which includes statutes involving fraud, deception, abuse of consumer information, consumer privacy, and government enforcement actions.

Consumer Protection litigation data helps lawyers on both sides make better strategic and tactical decisions during litigation. From detailed metrics on motions practice, to case timing and budgeting, legal analytics can provide an edge over the competition. Highlights include claim-specific case tags that allow users to see analytics most relevant to their claim:

  • Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA)
  • Fair Credit Report Act (FCRA)
  • Truth in Lending Act (TILA)
  • Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA)
  • FTC / CFPB Enforcement
  • Unfair / Deceptive Trade Practices
