Lex Machina Launches Legal Analytics for Patent Trial & Appeals Board (PTAB) Trials Data

MENLO PARK, CA, February 10, 2015 – Legal Analytics® creator Lex Machina announced today the integration of Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) data into its platform. The new module enables Patent Litigators to develop winning litigation strategy with even greater insight into party and patent litigation history. With this information, attorneys will be able to get a complete picture of patent litigation for a party, patent, or portfolio across all venues – district courts, PTAB and International Trade Commission (ITC). Lex Machina will demonstrate how in-house and law firm counsel can employ these new capabilities in a webcast on February 12. http://pages.lexmachina.com/registerforPTABWebcast.html

Lex Machina’s Legal Analytics for PTAB helps to uncover strategic insights about PTAB trials, including the parties and patents involved, the underlying docket events and documents, and potential outcomes. Integrated with district court and ITC litigation data, PTAB analytics ensures that no critical information is overlooked.

“Legal Analytics for PTAB is a crucial asset for litigators who want to develop a comprehensive winning strategy for resolving patent disputes, at PTAB or in district court,” said Teresa Rea, Director and Partner Crowell Moring, and former acting Director of the USPTO.

Attorneys can easily search PTAB trial dockets and evaluate potential patent strength by knowing how challenged patents have fared at PTAB. PTAB is charged with deciding post-issuance challenges to patents.

“As we see a wave of patent litigation move to PTAB, attorneys need to integrate PTAB findings into their litigation strategies,” said Josh Becker, CEO of Lex Machina. “With the new PTAB data, in conjunction with district court and ITC information, we make sure attorneys don’t miss anything, improving predictability and outcomes.”

Lex Machina provides users the ability to search and view every PTAB document and exhibit. PTAB-specific filters enable users to analyze specific trials. Attorneys can create a case list and run an enhanced Patent Portfolio Report, which provides the complete litigation history for a patent portfolio, across district courts, PTAB, and ITC.
