MENLO PARK, CA, October 30, 2014 – Lex Machina, creator of Legal Analytics®, announced today that Owen Byrd, Chief Evangelist & General Counsel, has been tapped to share his expertise at two upcoming legal conferences on November 6th in New York.

Byrd’s first appearance will be before CEO’s, Managing Partners and Executive Directors from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. as a panelist at the 19th Annual Law Firm Leaders Forum. His session, The Emerging Role of Technology in the Law Firm Model, will explore the way technology is shaping legal services and practice areas today – a new and exciting area that Lex Machina is pioneering.

Byrd will be joined by moderator Ralph Baxter, Chairman Emeritus, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP; and fellow thought leaders Ron A. Dolin, Research Fellow, Stanford Law School; Scott Ferrauiola, General Counsel, IBM Watson; Daniel Martin Katz, Associate Professor of Law, Michigan State University; and Michael Mills, President & Chief Strategy Officer, Neota Logic.

The conference, which sold out in 2013, is presented by Thomson Reuters Legal Executive Institute and is designed for law firm leaders and stakeholders who wish to remain on the cutting edge of their industry.

“Law firms that employ Legal Analytics land more clients, win more cases and close more deals,” said Byrd. “I’m excited to share with these law firm leaders how our customers, which include one third of the AmLaw 100, are deploying analytics in the business and practice of law.”

Byrd has also been selected to speak at the inaugural IP Dealmakers Forum later that afternoon. Hosted by The IP Investment Institute, the IP Dealmakers Forum will bring together investors, IP practitioners and advisors to discuss the current IP landscape while providing unparalleled networking opportunities.

Byrd’s topic, The Evolving Impact of IP Litigation on IP Value, will explore policy and Supreme Court case updates, the economic impact of policy initiatives and what each means for IP value and investments from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m.

He will be joined by moderator Michael Brody, Partner, Winston & Strawn; and fellow panelists Chris Israel, Partner, American Continental Group; Alexander Poltorak, Chairman & CEO, General Patent Corp; and Erich Spangenberg, Owner & Founder, IP Navigation Group.

“IP is an ever-more-important asset class, one that’s highly impacted by litigation,” said Byrd. “I look forward to presenting how companies and investors can use Legal Analytics to inform their IP deals.”
